Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is a world-famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. Between 28 July and 1 September 2019, temporary changes will be in place on streets around Edinburgh Castle. The changes will help to make our busy streets easier and safer to walk around.

Calton Hill & The National Monument

Marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Calton Hill has some of the city’s best views and if you get up early, the best sunrises. Calton Hill is also a resident of some iconic Scottish monuments and buildings. Monuments include the National Monument, Dugald Stewart Monument, Nelson’s Monument, the Old Royal High School, Robert Burns Monument, Political Martyrs’ Monument, and also the City Observatory.

Scott Monument

On the death of Sir Walter Scott in 1832, the great and good of the city came together to agree on a fitting monument to this outstanding Scottish literary figure. In 1836, an architectural competition was launched, inviting designs for an appropriate memorial. Two years later, the trustees approved the design submitted by George Meikle Kemp, and construction began in 1840.

Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Palace of Holyroodhouse, Her Majesty The Queen’s official residence in Scotland. Standing at the end of Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile, this fine palace is the home of Scottish royal history. Admission includes the special exhibition “A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex”.

The Georgian House

This grand 18th-century townhouse was at the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town development. Admire the stunning collections of period furniture, paintings, porcelain, silver, and glass, and gain a fascinating insight into both the upstairs and downstairs elements of 18th-century society.
